PAWEŁ  JĘDRZEJCZYK

1965 - 2003

The founder of the School of Active Recreation "Frajda", the initiator of many social and educational projects, a man of passion, the organiser of attractive forms of outdoor educa- tion for children and teenagers, an adventurer, a person actively participating in the life of local community in Stepni- ca, a devoted advocate for the transformation and economic development of the whole region.

All his life was connected with the area of Szczecin Bay. Since his childhood water and sailing were his passion. He started realising it in the Youth's Yachting Centre where he learned his first yachting skills. Since 1995 he was a yachting instru- ctor and a very popular trainer for many young people who wanted to set sail.

Because of his interests, in 1986-91 he studied at the Higher Maritime School in Szczecin where he joined the student tourist organisations AKT "Kroki"  and AKK "Pluskon" closely cooperating with the Student Division of the Polish Tourist Association "PTTK" in Szczecin. He organised walking tours, tourist jamborees and camps, all of which he filled with his energy and new ideas. He soon became the life of the party and it was him who initiated many tourist events, often of innovative character. In 1987-88, still a student of the Maritime School, he made one of his dreams come true and took part in  the round-the-world voyage on a sailing ship "Dar Młodzieży" and in the Tall Ships Australia celebrating the Australia’s bicentenary. On 6 March 1988 the ship passed Cape Horn and Paweł, as one of few Poles, became the mem- ber of the Cape Horn Brotherhood.

After the studies Paweł decided to settle in West Pomerania and started making his second dream come true, that is teaching children and teenagers water sports. At the same time he took up a post of a teacher of English in the First Private High School in Szczecin where he was also responsible for the organisation of adventure camps for the pupils.

He was also one of the pioneers of tourism in West Pomerania in the Polish new economic reality.  In 1992 he set up his own agency creating a new quality on the Polish tourist market. An innovative approach, attractive programs and non-standard, active training methods won him great popularity. In 1993, in collaboration with other local agencies, he established a regional West Pomeranian Chamber of Tourism and became its active member.  In 1988 he was awarded an honorary badge „For the Share in Development of Tourism” by the President of the Government Office of Physical Culture and Tourism.

In 1996 Paweł happened to visit a village of Czarnocin in the commune of Stepnica, where he came across a derelict building of an old state farm’s holiday centre. Enchanted with the peace and quiet of its surroundings and with the beautiful waters of Szczecin Bay being an excellent place to realise his passion Paweł decided to rent the practically uninhabitable property and move his business to Czarnocin for good. First as a leaseholder, then as the owner of the property he renovated it and extended, saving that beautiful building from complete destruction. The School of Active Recreation "Frajda" in Czarnocin and Paweł Jędrzejczyk, its founder, started the "new tourism" in the commune of Stepnica.

Thanks to Paweł’s efforts since 1996 the place has become the Mecca for the windsurfer from all over Poland. In 1996-2002,  as a member of the European Union for Coastal Conservation he got involved in the projects aiming at protection of that unique nature spot. Paweł’s open-mindedness, creativity and unusual diligence won him many friends and true popularity in the local community. In the local governmental elections of 2002 the people of Czarnocin elected him to the Council of Stepnica Commune where he was chosen the Council Chairmen. He had interesting development plans, had found new associates. He saw Stepnica a gem of tourism in Szczecin Bay area.

On 1 January 2003 Paweł died in the waters of Szczecin Bay, but his spirit and passion will always be to stay here in Czar- nocin, in the fond memory of people who met him on their way.
